What I do!

Mario Martin’s love for storytelling originated as a young boy when he felt inspired to tell stories through writing. At eighteen he shot his first film, “Checkmate.” That was the birthing of his passion for film-making and screenwriting.

Early on he honed his craft at the Maine Media Workshops and Boston Film & Video Foundation. Mario has attended many screenwriting boot-camps, worked with multiple coverage companies and many screenwriters.

EXT. WOODS – ONTARIO CANADA – DAY

V.O.(voice over) JACK;(whisper) “I see-em. Behind the thicket, up ahead.”

O.S.(off screen) Moose; Snort & Grunt.

Moose stands behind a thicket of branches nearby.

OPEN FIELD

JACK, 13, shotgun in hand aims at the Moose behind the thicket of branches. DAD, late thirties, stands behind Jack, supports his arms.

V.O.(voice over) DAD, whisper; “Pull the trigger, son.”

O.S.(off screen)Sound; “Ba-Boom!”

INT. BEDROOM – JACK’S HOUSE – ONTARIO CANADA – DAY

Jack sits in front of two computer screens, headphones on, plays video games, completely engaged.

MIA, 13, pretty, sits next to Jack, video controls in hand, focused on the screen maneuvers video controls rapidly and effortlessly, seems chill.

V.O. MOM; “Dinner’s ready!”

Jack and Mia look over their shoulder, (pause) turn back to computer screens, play their video game.

Mia nudges Jack with her shoulder, turns to him.

MIA

“I gotta go.”

Jack focused on the computer screen, maneuvers video controls with his hands, turns to Mia.

JACK

“Huh?”

Mia sets video controls down, stands, looks at Jack.

MIA

“See ya, Cuphead.”

She blurts out a laugh. Jack laughs with Mia. She exits.

KITCHEN

Jack sits at the table, looks at a cast-iron skillet full of meatballs, his eyes widen..

V. O.(voice over) MOM; “Moose-meatballs.”

MOM, late 30’S, pretty; looks at Jack, watches him eat. She smiles.

LATER

Mom and Dad sit at the table, converse. Mom appears nervous, Dad, head down, looks sad.

Dad looks away, appears frustrated, nervous.

VISION

V.O.(voice over)DAD; “I feel like I’m drowning………it’s so exhausting.”

BACK to KITCHEN

Dad reaches into his back pocket, reveals his wallet.

He opens his wallet, shows Mom an empty wallet, looks at her.

DAD

“Spent my last five on milk and bread.”

Mom looks concerned.

MOM

“What are we going to do?”

Jack leans in closer, sees Dad’s empty wallet.

Dad stands, rubs his forehead, has documents in hand, appears stressed.

BEDROOM

Jack, sits in front of a computer screen, appears razor focused. He moves his hands quickly over the key-pad, back and fourth eyes fixed to the screen.

COMPUTER SCREEN

V.O.(voice over) JACK; “Where and when?”

Jack clicks the mouse.

V.O.(voice over) JACK; “Las Vegas? Where is that?”

COMPUTER SCREEN

Pile of cash with a shovel in it.

0.S.(off screen) ANNOUNCER. “First place grand prize!” $13,000,000.00 million dollars!”

Jack appears surprised, stares at the pile of cash.

LATER

Jack sits back, appears reflective.

Jack turns, looks at a pink piggy-bank on his desk. He reaches for it, lays on the couch, takes money out.

EXT. BUS STOP – ONTARIO – CANADA – DAY

Young Couple stand arm & arm in Jack’s front yard next to a fore-sale sign. A real-estates agent gesture for Young Couple to proceed inside the house.

BUS STOP ACROSS THE STREET FROM JACK’S HOUSE

Jack stands at the bus stop. He watches Young Couple and Real-estate agent enter his house.

JACK’S VISION

BUS STOP

O.S. Sound of diesel engine approaching, brake sequel.

Jack turns, See’s School bus approach. It pull curbside, stops next to Jack.

Jack stands, looks at the open bus door.

Smiling BUS DRIVER looks at Jack.

BUS DRIVER

“Morning, Jack. Getting in?”

JACK

“I don’t feel so good, maybe tomorrow.”

Jack watches the school bus pull away.

EXT. JACK’S BACK YARD – FENCE – DAY

Jack approaches his bicycle against the fence.

Jack pulls the bike from the fence, kicks a leg up over the frame, grabs the handle bars, straddles the seat. He looks over his shoulder at the house, rides the bike out of the backyard.

EXT. TRAIN STATION – ONTARIO CANADA – DAY

O.S.(off screen) Sound; Diesel train engine at an idle, train whistle.

Jack rides his bike, he coasts to a stop.

He looks at a train up ahead to his right.

People board the train.

Jack runs to get on the train.

EXT. ONTARIO CANADA – DAY

O.S.(off screen) Train whistle.

Passenger train, Las Vegas bound.
