“Detritus!” Concept & Plot

December 20, 2019

Concept & Plot

A concept is, loose, airy with little content in terms of characters, dialogue and elements of the actual screenplay. A concept is just a general, “look and feel.” Okay, here it is.

EXT. BOSTON MASSACHUSETTS – DAY

PRESENT DAY

Professor,(guy)of bio-tech, late thirties, fit, looks cool. He drives a convertible with the top down. Girl, physics PhD, late twenties, fit, attractive, sits in the passenger seat, hair blows in the wind. They’re on hwy 93 north in slow moving traffic. Boston skyline in view.

O.S. Song; “Sympathy for the devil,” by Rollingstones.

Sky over Boston changes from sunny to gloomy & threatening. Professor and Girl approach, “Callahan tunnel” in bumper-to-bumper traffic, convertible disappears into the tunnel.

A massive burst of light covers the city sky.

INT. CALLAHAN TUNNEL – BOSTON – DAY

O.S. Song, “Sympathy for the devil.” Rolling Stones.

Professor and Girl in two lanes of slow moving traffic. Tunnel is brightly lit.

O.S. Loud rumbling sounds of earth shifting.

Tunnel walls shake, crack, ceiling tiles shake, fall-out. The highway splits, cracks. Professor and Girl in convertible, appear scared.

BLACK SCREEN.

O.S. Sounds of Screeching brakes, crashing cars…………… silence.

PROFESSOR.

“You okay?”

GIRL.

“I think so.?”

A shimmer of light pierces the darkness.

PROFESSOR.

“Look, there’s light.” “Take my hand, follow me.”

GIRL.

“I’m scared.”

EXT. BOYLSTON STREET – BOSTON – PRUDENTIAL BUILDING – DAY

Snow storm, heavy winds. Boyslton street and the sidewalks are snow covered and vacant. Yellow and blue streaks of light flash across the sky.

Professor and Girl emerge from the Prudential entrance, disheveled, dirty, shivering. They drudge to the sidewalk through knee-high snow, shield their eyes from the storm. They look left towards Mass ave. The sidewalks and street are snow covered, vacant. They turn right towards the commons, vacant snow-covered sidewalks and street. They look up.

A city with brilliant-black-buildings in odd shapes and structures inside a translucent bubble bigger than Boston hovers peacefully above the city.

JUST THEN

Professor and Girl are snatched away.

INT. HUMMER (moving) – DAY

Asian Girl(twenties)attractive, drives, focused on a long vacant snow-covered-highway, wipers flap. Snowbanks line both sides of the road in a snow covered forest. Next to her is, Black Guy,(twenties) appears geeky. Professor and Girl sit in the back seat, appear confused, frustrated. Asian girl turns to Professor and Girl.

ASIAN GIRL

“They matched our, “standing gravitational wave,” its identical to human DNA. Then streamed atomically scaled digital-pods, complete with seeds and eggs, making them part human and, part, “whatever they are.”

PROFESSOR & GIRL

“What?!”

ASIAN GIRL

“Yes. They are programmed to infiltrate. All frequencies are matched. This gives them……..

BLACK GUY

“The keys to the damn vault!” “To be specific, “the bitches are gonna extract every drop of water from this planet, strip all our top soil and some how, take the sky away.”

ASIAN GIRL

“They’re here for one of the earths minerals, “salt.”

Black Guy reveals a joint, displays it for all to see. He lights it. offers it to, Asian, Girl. She shakes her head no. He turns, hands it to Professor in the backseat. Professor shakes his head no. He offers the joint to, Girl. She takes the joint, inhales two big drags. Professor looks surprised. Black guy stares away, smirks.

BLACK GUY

“Gonna pick us like berries, spit out the seed.”

Professor and Girl look at each other, turn to Asian girl and Black Guy in the front.

PROFESSOR

“Where are we?”

Asian girl looks over her shoulder to Professor.

ASIAN GIRL

“Maine.”

Black guy turns to Professor.

BLACK GUY

“On the frigging Canadian border! Freezing my balls off!”

GIRL

“Who are you?”

ASIAN GIRL

“We’re students. We write code.”

BLACK GUY

“No one takes us seriously!”

Professor appears annoyed.

PROFESSOR

“How do you know all this?”

Asian girl drives, focused on the snow covered highway. Black guy smirks, appears proud, looks over his shoulder.

BLACK GUY

“I hacked them!”

Professor shakes his head with a look of disbelief. Black guy takes a drag from the joint, exhales.

BLACK GUY

“Three days from now, we’re all gone. This is day one.”

Professor appears concerned.

PROFESSOR

“This is like a bad dream.”

GIRL

“Ya, and it’s time to wake up.”

Asian Girl, drives, focused on the snow covered highway. Her left eye illumines like a computer screen full of green scrolling code. She blinks, her eye turns normal. She reveals a subtle smirk, turns to Professor and Girl.

ASIAN GIRL

“Unfortunately, it’s not a dream.”

And the Plot is………”Overcoming the Monster.”
