The Quest

July 7, 2019

One of my favorite plots. We are all on a quest for something or someone. And that’s one of the stories of our humanity. The quest to find, God, your soul mate, wealth, health, new horizons, learning, adventure, expression, revenge, justice, improving life and much more. The beauty of this, (Quest) is that it is so personal and everyone’s quest is legitimate because its theirs and worthy of pursuit. Some might even say that the quest is an obligation for one to pursue as a life calling, ambition or goal.

This is why knowing your plot is essential in the crafting of your story. Knowing that your plot is, “The Quest,” or another plot helps us as writers to be more efficient. To know where we are as to the, three acts, more importantly the, “why,” which is part of the plot. As the why (plot) drives your story from the beginning middle to the end. As to your protagonist and antagonist, the choices they make. Your locations, dialogue, actions. The set ups and reveals. The plot is touched upon, seen from the beginning and fulfilled or revealed in the third act to an anticipating audience. And that is storytelling. When our audience is fully engaged after watching your movie they’ve gained understanding because the plot was clear. They leave, hopeful or not, depending on the story. Maybe challenged or inspired, informed, entertained for sure.
